The growing demand for transitional minerals is deeply impacting Indigenous Communities in Jujuy, Argentina. Despite promises of a sustainable future, threats to their lives, culture and local ecosystems have been intensified. The lithium extraction in Jujuy has ignored the free, prior and informed consultation processes, violating indigenous Peoples’s land rights.

Indigenous participation is crucial for a fair and just transition. We urgently call on the international community to defend the rights of Indigenous communities in Jujuy.
